Ok say I was to get my KDX cylinder ported and say 7 months down the track the top end goes in it, is the port work destroyed? either by that or by a fresh hone/re-bore?
Thanks,

Should be able to save it, but don't hone an E model or later. If damaged it needs to be replated.

Honing after porting...
Powerseal USA in Pennsylvania does great work nickasil plating and cylinder repair. 89-94 kdx200s had electrofusion plating from the factory but they can be nickasil plated too. Don't know what H series 200/220s had for plating.
No honing the cylinders! They need replate and just a light scuffing with a scour pad.

Re: Honing after porting...
Gouging a ported cylinder is the same as gouging a stock cylinder. It may be OK, it may need welded/bored/replated. You can't hone scores out of a plated cylinder. The increase of failure on a ported cylinder is at the mercy/education of the one holding the grinder. It should not be altered to the point that it's going to snag a ring and cause damage, etc.

All full-sized USA KDX's came stock with Kawasaki's proprietary Electrofusion coating.
