I'm trying to get an assortment of jets together for my '89 so I'll be ready to start tuning when I get it back together. My local shop only has off-brand jets like EBC and DG Performance. I can get these for about half the price of ordering genuine Keihin jets online. I usually work on older bikes that use Mikuni carbs and I've always stuck with genuine parts for them. I'd rather not pay almost $50 for a handful of jets if the off-brand ones are just as good.
What do you guys think about these aftermarket jets? Are they manufactured to the same tolerances as genuine Keihin? Have you had good luck with them? I'd also be interested if anyone knew of a good source for single Keihin jets. Every eBay seller that I can find that has them for a fair price doesn't have all the sizes that I need.
Genuine Keihin jets VS. EBC, DG, etc.

I buy from jetsrus.com. Shipping is super quick. With the last order I placed, the $7 shipping charge was pretty reasonable.
I usually just go with genuine because they aren't that much more expensive.
I have no idea on the quality of the off brand jets.

I usually buy genuine jets, but I bought a 40 size of pro X brand, and holding it up to another genuine 40, the top emulsion holes looked to be made to a lower quality/slightly smaller holes/rougher casting, and would effect the air screw tuning. so IMO a same size jet of non genuine quality would result in slightly different end results

Well, the bike will be stock except for a DG pipe and silencer, and I'm planning to use a DGK needle. Elevation is about 700 ft. I'll have the bike out of my shop within a week or two so I'd say the temp will be in the 60's and humidity will probably be around 60-70%
From research I've done on this site, it looks like my jetting will need to be around a 40 pilot and a 150 main with the DGK needle as a baseline.

On my 1994, with an FMF pipe and spark arrestor, same 700 ft elevation and temp around 70, I was at:
45 pilot
R1173N needle (whichever one Jeff Fredette suggests for use with the pipe)
150 main
A 42 pilot was too lean.

I just bought some Chinese brand pilot jets and was wondering the same thing.
BTW Jason, is it right that to know if pilot jet is too lean, you turn the idle screw out till the revs raise? And if that is below 1 turn it's lean? Correct?

Re: Genuine Keihin jets VS. EBC, DG, etc.
You guys basically reinforced what I already knew. That being it's best to use genuine jets. I ordered up an assortment fromt Jetsrus.com. It cost more that I'd hoped (I'm accustomed to getting Mikuni jets for around $3 or $4 each and these Keihins were almost $7 each), but at least I know that I'll have quality parts.
Thanks for the jetting tips, Jason. I understand that the DGK needle is a richer needle than the 1173 so it will require slightly leaner jetting overall. I almost went with the 1173 since that's Jeff's recommendation but it sounds like a lot of guys are really happy with their DGKs.

Re: Genuine Keihin jets VS. EBC, DG, etc.
When I tried a 42, it revved to the moon on startup, even with air screw adjustment, so I stuck with the 45.
Turning the airscrew out allows more air (leaner).
