are you in australia? If so, maybe the first time it was put together per american specs...when really everything needed to be put together upside down per austrailian specs

after pulling aprt an engine tonight, I could see how that big shim not being behind that clutch housing could cause your scenario. if that was the case, your clutch cable had to be all that way tight or all the way loose to have any kind of lever feel. still couldn't have been a good feel. maybe I'm off on this...

Im in canada and i think u r prob right cus i had to adjust the cable all the way loose and it still didnt feel right
