KDX 200 don't want to start

Hi Guys

My 2003 KDX 200 does not want to start, only after a half n hour of kicking, then she runs like a beast and starts every time there after, leave her for an hour then the same thing...?

I have replaced the spark plug, drained the old fuel and replaced it with 2l petrol & 100ml 2 stoke oil, filled up the coolend, checked the cut out switch and gave her a good wash ( just for good measure ).

Am I doing something wrong... like flooding it?

Started happening after a lot of oil that came out of the exhaust - blue smoke and smelt heavily of 2 stroke oil ( think it put in too much )
:please: help

40:1 is a good fuel to oil ratio..

100ml to 2L is a lot of oil!! You should be running about half that amount of oil for 2 litres. For 50ml per 2 litres = 40:1

You would be running 20:1 ratio with that gas you are running

You might find this useful in the future :) there's a metric converter at the bottom there for the 1st worlders

You could try tweaking the air screw a bit for hard starts. Set it to 1.5 turns out for default. Turn inwards(clockwise) a little bit at a time until it's easier to start. It helps my bike with hard starts anyways

Might want to replace silencer packing too

The bike should still run fine at 20:1, I've ran that with new crank bearings for the first tank and hardly noticed it so long as you didn't idle it for ages.

As said, clean carb.

And you could try starting it without the silencer on it just to see if it makes a difference.

I'm from Paarl, Cape Town, South Africa.

So I will try the new mixture of fuel and give it some carb cleaner, work on the air intake and see what she does.

It's my 1st 2 stroke so it's kinda new to me, use to have 4 strokes.

Thanx for all the advise! :prayer:

cool , its pretty impressive to see how wide spread the KDX is
is your bike street legal or just a dirt toy ?

hope you get her running smoothly soon

Hay that is one of the questions I had... I've got an extra set of plastics with the lights build in but not sure if I can get it street legal with the FMF pipe etc.... is it a difficult proses?

But for now I she is a dirty bitch with lots of power. ( aka - Green Mamba ) :kick:

SA has great deals on these bikes, got mine for dirt cheap - http://www.gumtree.co.za/s-motorcycles- ... ?pr=,20000

At 20:1 you're likely too lean on the idle circuit making it hard to start until she's warmed up and the heat of the cylinder is assisting. Pick a mix ratio, pull the carb and disassemble it, then clean it thoroughly. Then as is said here time and time again....clean filter, new plug, fresh gas, mechanically sound, repack muffler and follow jetting guide. Soon you'll be starting 1 kick ALL the time, and your mate won't be getting oil on him because he won't be able to keep up
