Hi. Just in case anyone did not know already, I thought I would point out a common flaw in the early / mid 80's electronic tripmeter / timer units I see for sale on eBay.
If you look at this one, you can see what I mean.

A fair amount of units I have seen for sale over the years have one or both sides "blacked out". This means that part is DEAD...FOREVER.
Buyer beware!

Re: KDX200 / KDX250 Electronic Tripmeter / Timer Warning
just wondering how the trip meter is powered. In my manual I see a Black wire (ground) and a brown wire to where? Have a 1983 KDX 250 I'm doing over. My friend never had the lights working or the trip meter working but I want all that stuff to be right.....

Welcome to the forums.
4 AA batteries in a case that mounts underneath the stock headlight. Look on www.partzilla.com for OEM diagrams and you will see it under "METER" I think.
