Help! I broke a bolt

Post by JasonK94Z »

I broke the hollowed out little bolt that holds the spring and little ball against the valve rod rack? It's under the left side and part of the power valve deal.

Anyone have one? If not, where can I get one quickly?

I'm not certain, but I know people remove the ball and spring completely in order to get earlier advantages out of the power valve. Might be ok just to leave it out?

(I'm new to H-series so I'm not sure if it is ok to run without the bolt at all)

Interesting. I'd like to hear more from others on this topic now.

I just pulled mine off today, If you're desperate to get one quick just get a bolt the right size or longer, cut to length, and drill a bit of a hole in the head of it?

Help! I broke a bolt

You can run without the spring and ball with no problems but you will need to put something in the hole to keep the crap out. And make sure it is short enough to clear everything inside.

Yeah, it's purely a subjective thing, some swear it lets the bike get on the pipe earlier, but no real data to back it up. Keep in mind that the whole KIPS assembly is designed to work in concert with the CDI unit and engage ~6K rpms. Engine porting, pipe, etc are all tuned to that range, so opening early defeats some of that engineering, but how much is really unknown. All that said, it's safe to ride without it if that's what you're worried about.

Good to know. I'm having a bolt drilled out in the Cnc shop at work tomorrow.
