will the shock rod assembly for my 91 KDX 250 fit in the 89 KDX 200 shock cylinder? The part numbers are slightly different.

????? They are both 44mm seal heads.

I am not sure of whether they have different shaft lengths or not.

Check on travel distance within the body, as well.

Here is a picture I took of a 1989 - 1994 KDX200 shock I was working on.

It has a new bumper, that means the nut lock was grinded off piston valving? How was it resealed? I do need a new shock maybe, my lower U-link has a crack in it

Those are reference numbers, not part numbers.

46102-1316 is the 1991 - 1994 KDX250 part number the shaft assembly.

Gotanubike, you DEFINITELY need a different shock.

The broken part is called a clevis.

I also messed up and posted the 200 diagram twice...better have a second look haha

Not sure if a kdx250 shock will fit on a E200, I recall a thread where someone fit an E shock to to an H200

sorry, it's the original bumper.it's just rare to see those still on there. It indicated to me the seal is still good. The peen has not been grinded off. Lots of old oil drained out when I changed it. So the seal seems fine.

Wait, so now I'm confused. Do you guys think I can use the 91 kdx250 rod assembly in the 89 kdx200 cylinder?

Have you taken both apart and measured the shock shaft length?

No, the 250 shock is all buttoned up. I don't want to drain the nitro in case I sell it. Cost $45 to charge it!

DANG! That is the highest I have ever heard of.

...So what ARE you trying to do?? Do you have a 1989 KDX200 shock needing a shock shaft??

I need to replace the 89 200 shock seal. Should I buy a new seal and bumper and do that whole procedure or can I just take the 250 rod out and slip that in? I just need to know if they're interchangeable. Thanks!

Why do you have a KDX250 shock??

I would just get a new seal head for the KDX200 shock and keep the KDX250 shock complete.

Have you tried installing the KDX250 shock into the KDX200? Does the reservoir on the KDX250 shock hit the frame? I know they reservoir mounts down on the 1989 - 1994 KDX200 to clear the pipe and KDX250/1995+ KDX is pointing up to clear the pipe.

I don't need the kdx 250 shock. That's why I'm willing to pull the rod out of it if it'll fit the 89 200. But if it doesn't I'll sell the complete 250 shock. You're right, the 250 shock points up and is blocked by the frame. So I guess nobody knows for sure if a 91 kdx 250 shock rod can replace an 89 kdx 200shock rod?

89 kdx 200 v 91 kdx 250 shock rod

Post by Gotanubike »

I would say, sold but it won't fit

From what I see in the fiche, the piston and the seals are the same parts which would mean they are the same diameter. But the part number for the whole assembly(^46102) that includes the piston, seals, rod, clevis are different:

KDX250 piston rod assembly: 46102-1316
KDX200 piston rod assembly: 46102-1260

That might mean the rods are different lengths or the clevis linkages are different, but no parts given for the rods or dust shields.

Thanks for the input. Maybe the difference is the dampening hole diameter. Who knows but I decided to grind off the end of the 200 rod and replace bumper and seal. Anyone interested in a 91 kdx250 shock? Good shape, new oil and just recharged.
