VIN / FRAME NUMBER QUESTIONS

Post by sebamax2 »

Hi all i just bought a kdx 125 with 220 engine project bike. it looks like it needs alot of work to get it going. the owner said the previous owner has changed the frames on it but he still suplied me with the v5c and old MOTs etc of the old frame but the frame with the bike has the numbers there. im guessing the previous owner bought a spare frame to do the engine swap and everything but later could not be bothered to do the same onto the original frame so he just left it. i dont want to be changing frame numbers and going through all that hassle. anyway back to the poin the vin/frame number is only 12 digits it goes
DX125A-000053
looking at the v5 from the old frame it also only had 12 digits
I could run a HPI check on the frame number but since its only 12digit it might get rejected and i will end up loosing 25 quid

why they only have 12 digits?

Here is some VIN information but it only applies to US models. Might be helpful.

In the UK, and some other places, the frames have a "frame number", not a VIN.

It is a 1990 model.

This is from the Kawasaki "Model Recognition Manual".
