Headlight on, RPM's drop;

OK, never noticed this before, but hit the "turn off" headlight switch and the rpm's increased ~ 100 to 150 rpm's at idle.
I thought they were independent circuits ???

My guess is you are removing a load off the engine.
Same thing with the alternator in your automobile.

my bike did that before I rewound the lighting coil, it stopped after. I'm guessing the power needed by the lights takes away a little from the intensity of the spark

Like tedh98 said, the electrical load on the lighting coil puts a physical load on the engine.

You are demanding more from the magnets in the stator/flywheel. When the light is on it draws current which is coming from the fields from the magnets passing each other.
