KDX200 H1 - Rebore

Hi All and Happy New Year,
Have stripped my motor and found (amoungst other concerns) that i have to bore her out to +.50mm
A Wiseco piston is on its way to me.
Can someone advise if the bore must be rechromed or something similar - or if a bore / polish and fit will suffice.
Cheers
C

Yes it will need replated, or sleeved. Sleeving is about the same cost but you lose the reliability of a long lasting cylinder.

Replating ! - somehow I doubt im going to get that in the middle of africa, not that a resleave will be much easier.
Many thanks, will arrange for the barrel to be sent out of country
Cheers

be sure to send your new piston aswell so that the company doing the rebore can match it perfectly

I don't think 0.5 MM overbore will interfere with the center powervalve but be sure to check into it
(or better yet, send the powervalve with the barrel so that machinist can verify it fits or cut down the powervalve to make it work

Thanks for that - have sent the barrel with power valve to SA (with new piston) hope to get it back in a few days.
Once I get word from the bike shop which engineer they are sending it to , I will heads up them on the possible power valve conflict.

dimirage - lesson learn :-)

sent the barrel and piston .50mm oversize - down to South Africa for .50mm rebore and replate.
turns out in SA they never rebore a 200 - if necessay they replate back to standard bore 66mm
so i had to buy another piston kit

that said - as im back to a standard bore, theres no interference to the powervalve.

hope to get the parts back in 2 weeks and start putting her back together

for future reference, does the company that replated the cylinder sell piston kits aswell ?
when I have mine done here in the US I send the barrel to a company (langcourt) and have them asses the bore, decide if it needs only a replate or a oversize bore and then a replate and I buy a wiseco piston from their stock so I don't end up with a situation like you are in now

just out of curiosity, how do handle deeper scratches in south Africa, only weld and replate back to stock ?
(not to question your statement but maybe they assessed the damaged and decided it was not needed to overbore?)

glad to hear you will be getting back in the dirt soon
