Plastic skidplates????

Post by jschexna »

I found a plastic skidplate for under $30.00 for my 220 and would like some feedback about them. I know it can't be as durable as the alloy ones, but I'm ordering a few items anyway, so is this skidplate a waste of money or a cheap upgrade????

I bought one from Jason for my 88 KDX. It works good. Plastic will never be as good as aluminum but the plate on the 88 has taken some good hits and its fine.

It was @ Stealthy offroad. I believe they were $29.00 for a Kawi green plastic skidplate. http://www.steahlyoffroad.com/store2003 ... kid+Plates

Hi. Thanks for the link. I see a blue one for an E model. I have a Maier green one for '86 - '88, but I have never used it.

Thanks for the report, Dave. :supz:

I wonder if those are Maier skid plates. My 1986 - 1988 plastic plate is by Maier.

They are actually made in South Africe from memory. It has held up great to the limited riding I have done. It doesn't seem to catch much mud or anything. It has a few scratches but other than that is pretty sturdy. Mine has waterpump protection aswell. Pics are in my gallery of a Hyde Developments Glide plate, different to the Maier ones.

These are the Maier ones. On their home page it says that they are one of the few vendors to carry the plastic Maier skid plates. No pics of them though. Screw it, I'm ordering one.

Let us know how it turns out. I had never heard of them making one for the '95 and up models. I knew they made them for the C and E models.

And the MSR radiator guards are on backorder. I'll have to do a search for another distributor.
