used crank case on ebay etc.

Post by silversleeper »

Hello,

Question regarding buying used crank cases

if you buy the used crank cases whether right or left side or both together.

They Will not work for anyone because it's not matched to your crank or another crank except for the one it was made from?

Only way used crank cases will work is if you get them machined honed out to match your crank.

Is this all true? Please correct where I may have a misunderstanding.

Thanks,

Tim

what is the exact part you need for your bike ?
I have always been under the impression that cranks can be swapped out from case to case but if you need to replace cases you want to get them as a set
not because the crank wont fit but because the seal between the actual cases leak where they meet if they don't

having said that, I've never popped open a KDX case so im not sure about our specific bikes
one a side note
I did have a wickedly build Honda MTX 50 cc when I was little
it had a 70 CC reed cage bigbore kit on it, 28 MM mikuni carb, homoet exhaust and a bad habbit of blowing crank bearings
after about the 3rd set or so we machined out the case halves to fit bearings from a CR125 (I think it was) and installed a set of those on the crank
that lasted about 3 months and then the crank snapped in half

(not sure if that helps you but cool story nonetheless no?)

The cases don't need to be machined to fit any particular crank. I also think that you could replace just the defective case half and have no problems.

I can not remember anyone mentioning having to have a set of cases machined to work with a different crankshaft.
