I have a '99 KX250 with a strong motor and good chassis that I can't determine whether to part it or sell it whole. I have $1300.00 in the bike and I'd like to get back at least $1100.00. I don't mind sitting on it for a few months.
I've started to borrow parts off of it for my KDX and that's not really a road I want to go down.
1. The KDX motor being a popular swap into the KXs is known, but what would a hybrid builder value a good roller at? This bike has monster energy graphics, fat bars, and is straight and clean (metaphorically, it has some mud on it at the moment). I'm 215lb and it's undersprung for me.
2. Are KX250 motors worth anything? I see them on Ebay but I've never sold anything like that on Ebay. Don't know if it would be a good idea or not.
Basically, I'm just hee hawing around with what to do. Advice?

'99 KX250 part out or sell?
Put the bike back together and put it up on craigs list for $1500 or so and see what you get. If you get no interest in a few months then drop the price some or part it out. But keep in mind, once you start parting it out you are committed to it and it might take a long time to get your money out of it.

One thing to consider is that if you are thinking of a hybrid roller for a builder you might have a hard time with the sale. Most hybrids are built off the 125 frame, not the 250 if I'm not mistaken. I would agree with rbates9.

Re: '99 KX250 part out or sell?
Parting out a bike on eBay is a lot of work, especially if you don't have much experience as a seller. Better off getting it really clean. Get a can of Maxima SC1 (short-term clear coat) so it's all nice an shiny. Then list if for $1,700 and let the buyer bargain you down to $1,500. Throw in some gear or some extras so people think they are getting a deal. Easy.

Yeah, go for a whole sale first, easier. Hybrid builders using the 200/220 motors generally go 125 chassis, the 250KX roller would make a good host for a KDX250 motor tho...
