Case saver question

Post by G22inSC »

I was wandering what everyone is using for a case saver over the sprocket to protect the engine case from a run-away chain. I took the OE one off to clean today and realized it is actually a two piece unit. There is the outer plastic cover with an inner metal piece. This inner piece is what you normally see on a lot of MX bikes. I got to thinking. I know some people have issues with mud buildup and thought about just running the inner metal piece. That guard is directly inline with the sprocket so it should catch the chain before it hits the engine case. Has anyone done this or does everyone use both pieces?

I run mine with just the factory metal case saver. Works awesome an rarely ever packs up with mud.

See my build thread for the how-to, but I run a Yamaha WR case saver. Looks better, and is much more resistant to mud build up than the stock one.

Bought my bike with neither. Went to Kawi dealer and just bought the metal inner. It's all that's needed if you ride off-road in my opinion.
