Any other carbs fit my 86 KDX 200

Post by Ford Junky »

I've been tryin to git my 86 runnin better, and found out I have the wrong carb. My bike has a Mikuni V20, but from what I read it should have a VM34. That would explain why it wouldn't pull at anything over 1/8 throttle. I havent been able to git hold of a 34, so im wondering if anyone knows what other carb I could run that I might be able to find.

Any of the 88+ keihin 200 carbs should work but I think you'll need an 88 intake boot. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe you have the stock carb, but you probably want to measure to be sure. Some of the Mikuni VMs had some stampings on them (like for example V20) which were for specific config identification.

Yeah, just confirmed (sorta).

Picture is from ebay auction from an 87 KDX. Note the stamp.

Ok, thanks. Thats real good to know. I sure appreciate the help, I dont have much bike experience, most of what I do is automotive or heavy duty. Now I'm back to lookin for a needle jet for this carb.

The Mikuni round slide is probably the most common motorcycle carb ever built. You shouldn't have any problem getting a variety of needles at any decent parts shop

The needle itself isnt hard to find, your right, but the needle jet seems to be elusive. Looks like someone tried to turn mine out at some point instead of pushing it out. When they did that they damaged it to where the needle cant meter fuel property.

The VM needle jets are also completely commonly available, but you could always go to a big Mikuni distributor, like Sudco if your local guy won't get it.

Yep, that should do it, and a throttle/cable.
