Invest in a manual. Pull carb clean very well and check main jet size. Sounds like its something simple. Don't get discouraged. Tinkering on these is almost half the fun.

One of our favorite phrases here at KDXRider....new plug, clean filter, clean carb, fresh fuel then jet....no shortcuts. Pick a fuel oil ratio (most go 40:1) and stick with it. Can't even begin to count the number of folks who have started a post like this, refused to follow the process, and months later come back with "I finally rejetted and this bike is awesome". It's not tough, and only takes simple hand tools (as does most of the work on these bikes). Welcome to the family and good luck.

The "factory" spec is 32:1. But that was a long time ago. Most modern mix oil is much better then it was in the early 90's so 40:1 has become a more common ratio. 32:1 of 50:1 can both be run with success. The common idea about this topic is the bearings like to have oil so most people tend to go with a 40:1 for piece of mind. The biggest thing is to pick something and jet for it and then stick with it.

Could also be a crank seal. I have a very low hour 96 200 in my garage that needs the crank seals replaced. Wont clear up on top, smokes alot and is losing trans fluid. The bike is 17 year old and the seals tend to harden over time especially with ethanol based fuels.
