Found a machine shop in CT. anyone know his work

I have not heard of them. I can completely understand keeping the money local. They seem to have a wide range of services.

I did notice that they seemed to lean more toward sleaving than replating. I tend to go more with the replate then the sleave. They also seem to be a touch on the cocky side.

I would like to hear some real life reviews. They might be a good place to go.

I hope to ride a few more times this season before I start tearing down the top end.The start of the exploratory phase.

I recently ran some cheap mix from home depot against my better judgement .I was out of mix and really wanted to ride.

I ran half a tank and started to hear bearing noise and called it quits. I drained the mix and filled it with some high quality mix and the noise settled down a little.

Every thing you stated above including the cocky part was my impression.on the other hand i like that if i need to i can drive over to his shop even if he is a couple hours from me.

I kind of feel his cockiness is just like all my machinist friends when they start talking thousandths

OK, so the people who responded to me at NEDirtBikes all had no problems and satisfied with his service. Also, I have seen mention of Nasin Machine in Plainfield, CT. A lot of riders really recommend Tom Ledger at Nasin Machine.

Well I searched the forum and it seems like crank rebuilding and bore work mostly. Everyone seemed really pleased with both of them. I did not find anyone complaining about them.

There are a lot of guys that can do this work, but not a lot of guys that understand how a 2-cycle really works when it comes to grinding on one....port timing, time area, transfers, boosts, etc. which is where you get leary about letting a guy cut on your ports and head. RB definitely has a cookie-cutter head for the KDX when the cylinder is stock. If you port a motor, let that guy do the head too.

Sorry, I should have been more specific on the bore work. It was sleeving and replating. I did not see anyone have porting done, but I am sure they must do it.

I have found that if you just want a reliable bike to ride and your not racing every weekend for prize money your better off with as much stock as you can when it comes to engine internals like porting and what not. I have found that the more you try to get out of a toy the more time you spend messing with it to get it to run right.

So I would be just interested in plating work.

Ask me how much I spent on my Harley over the past 15 yrs trying to make it run like a Jap liter bike. I could've bought 20 KDX's. I have WAY WAY WAY more fun on my KDX that is just about as stock....ha ha... As you can get

MY main interest are to have a machine shop that i can trust to do standard rebuilds with, somebody that will rebuild a crank reliably that is somewhat local to the Danbury CT.area

have a friend who in the process of rebuilding a rm 125 and is sending the crank to this guy soon ,i will keep you all posted on how his experience is
