What year is this KDX

My son is all ready to get a KDX ASAP.. I want him to exhibit a little bit of patience, and get the newest model he can get, but he is his father's son, in that I never got a whole lot of patience when it comes to toys. So we live in a very rural part of Northeast Oregon KDX's just don't pop up that often around here. Then this one showed up on CL.

He was originally selling it with an 82 IT465, but that apparently sold. The problem I see with this one is, it is NOT a 96 as he says it is. When it was for sale with the IT, he had it listed as a 98. I am not too fluent with telling what year it is, but from a guess of other pictures I have seen, I think it is a 1990 or a 1991. I am not completely certain. What do you all think? What do you think it is worth? I have seen 2000-2002 KDX200's in the 1200-1400 range in the Boise area, which is a 2 1/2 hr. drive, where this one is 45 min. Thanks for your help.

Steve

I am pretty sure it can't be a 93 or a 94 because I believe they came with USD forks. Another question I have is, didn't they come with rear disk guards? Or was that an aftermarket thing at that time?

It is a 1989 - 1994 KDX200 (the "E" series). It has a 1990 seat on it.

Here are a couple of things to narrow it down:

1989 has a dark blue seat, with a lime green shock spring.

1993 and 1994 have UpSide Down (USD) forks. 1989 - 1992 have conventional (right side up) forks.

1991 has big, solid pink lines on the seat. 1992 has some pink dots / splatter.

JUST FOR FUN: Name what you can see wrong with it besides what is listed:

brake hose routed outside fork instead of inside
clutch lever ball broke off
fender bag missing
odometer / tripmeter and cable missing

I would say if it was ridden a fair amount, it was ridden in work boots / tennis shoes instead of real riding boots, due to frame wear.

Check craigslist for pricing in your area, but that is just a little high for my area.

Are these close by???

The KDX 220 in Pasco is about 2 hours away in one direction and the others are in the Boise area (Kuna is just outside of Boise) and are 2 1/2 to 3 hours away in the other. My son has found all of those as well as a few others that just recently sold. He likes that 220. I am still learning on what is the difference between the two and trying to figure out which would be better for a young teen. Thanks for the info Jason, you caught a couple things I didn't.

He may drop the price due to it actually being an E series if you point out all the flaws and act concerned on how old it is. Ive bought a few for hundreds less that way. I got a 2004 yz105 supermini that the guy thought was a 93 yz80 traded a 90 xr200 not running for it then traded that for my titled 99 kx125!

You could send him a message and ask for the 10th digit of the vin and that will tell you the year. You can google "VIN Year" and you will find a chart that will tell you the letter code. If he replies with anything other then an 89-94 then walk away. And if he replies with 93 or 94 then ask what happened to the original forks.
