Calling Slick Nick. Help pls.

Post by KDXsg »

My rewound lighting coil off my KDX200SR model doesn't seem to work when I installed it.
What could have happened? I am getting frustrated.
I have checked/done: 1) scrape off the tips before soldering
2) followed the direction of the stock coil
3) epoxy the coil wraps
4) coil not hitting the flywheel
5) checked all connections again for continuity with a meter. Meter showed
0.06 ohm of resistant. measured from the tip of the yellow wire to the start of coil.
What could have happened or done wrong? Any help welcome.

Measure resistance from the yellow wire to black across the coil to make sure you don't have an open or short in your windings, should be 1.6-3 ohms depending on the gauge you used. Also look at the voltage on the yellow wire with engine running (and regulator connected) you should be seeing 8-16VAC. Make sure your light switch is on too. If it worked before you rewound it, then likely the problem is there.

I suggest the same as above. Look for a short in the coil itself.

If it's coming off an H or 220 (or a 250) its almost a direct bolt on. The only difference is the KLX right hand collar is 20mm instead of the 22mm on the KDX. You can either cut the KDX one down, or if you already have the KLX just use it's collars.

The part numbers for the hub etc are the exact same. Should bolt right up...
