shifting problem

Post by zepplin153 »

when I get a wide open area and I start blasting through the gears when I get to 4th it has a hard time shifting from 3rd and 4th and just wants to stay in 3rd. I will usually have to end up letting off the gas a lot in order to get it to shift. Any ideas?

That's probably the most obvious cause. Does the clutch seem to drag the engine? If it's not the clutch, it's possible that a shift fork is bend. No fun there, so we will hope not!

My 200 starts to shift funny / hard when the oil gets worn out. Might be worth changing the oil. Maybe even trying a different oil.

I could see the clutch basket being an issue but if you are trying to shift with out the clutch then a notched basket will not matter.

dirty oil, wrong oil, worn out clutch...
try changing the oil and see how it goes.
What are you using?
