KDX200 crankcases

Post by mrshells »

Hi Guys Im new to the forum Ive just bought a KDX200 1989
nike seems great till i found a crack in the crancase where someone has previously forced the cases apart
my question is will any other cases fit from the kmx or kdx 125/200/220 range of bikes ??
its a water cooled model first of the KIPS engines
thanks

KDX200 from 89-94 will be a direct replacement. I won't promise, but I believe you could use 95+ kdx200/220 cases, however this may require using some internals from a 95+ kdx. I don't know for sure, as I haven't done it. You SHOULD use a matched set, however you could get off with replacing just whichever half is bad if you're lucky. Which side has the crack? How bad is it? Can you post a picture?

left side is cracked
its currently away with a welder to see if we can repair it
looking at the price of used cases I was hoping to find that maybe the 125 one would be the same

There was an SR street-able version in some countries, with an oil pump on the engine.

Do you have a metal gas tank or plastic?

You may want to check the regular version crankcase halves against SR version, if you have to shop for a new set.

keep in mind that if you do have it welded there is a very good chance it will need to be resurfaced since the heat from welding it will warp it a bit

I would think that the difference in SR case halves would be in the right side where the pump goes. BUT there could be oil passages in the LH side as well that are different. I dunno. :?

Case halves are a matched set. I would never roll the dice on just one side.

Yes, a matched set. I would gamble in a pinch if I had to. Hondabond can work wonders. No guarantees, obviously. And if it doesn't work you are out whatever the single case half cost plus the cost of a matched set. Depends on what kind of cash you have on-hand I reckon.
