CoronasAndChips wrote:That is an awesome build. There was a mid 90s 250 ninja for sale locally but I called 20 minutes too late. My plan was to put my spare 97 kx 250 motor in it.
Realizing the chance to find a Ninja dirt cheap won't happen soon so I sold the motor.
Again congrats on a terrific build.

Nice bike! I'm also looking to get my bike supermotard excels. But I wonder will the stock front fork fits any kind of supermotard excel? Or we need to change it to have the wider width?

Thanks,
Dan

thank you
a lot of work went into it, but if you have a bit of knowledge and a good machine shop it is pretty straight forward.

sailorcolin,
most people just choose what rims to use then get them laced to the kdx hubs, that is the easiest way by far, I managed to pick up a set of brand new talon hub/excel rim package that was built for a klx 300, knowing it would only take minor modification to fit the kdx.
just do your research well and all will go smoothly :)
best regards

SSo, a set of rims from a KLX will fit on a KDX? What sort of mods did you have to do?
If so, I'm gonna be in heaven!

not any klx wheels,
I know the klx 300 uses the same hubs as the kdx, and has same axle sizes etc, but the rear would need the spacing altered slightly as the klx uses a different rear caliper hanger.

this is why most have rims laced to the standard hub, as its much easier, and you wont get hassle with brakes etc.

as my talon/excel hubs/rims where made for a klx 300 I had to adjust the rear spacing, also taking into account I was using a 160 rear tyre!
front wheel would have bolted straight in if I was using the standard kdx forks, but im not! so I had to do a fair bit of work on the front end, which would take a while to list!

Bit of an update..........

a lot of you may know I have been doing a DC conversion with a trail tech reg/rec, 85w stator, battery etc.
I completely removed the stock lighting wiring and made my own loom, so now have side lights, low beam, high beam, brake lights ( that you don't have to have full lights on to work!) indicators, horn, currently using a H4 60/55w as I have purchased a new headlight as I wanted everything to be dot legal.

new headlight........

Image

just need to fit the front indicators,

rear end (sorry pic isn't great!).........

Image

still have this to play with..............

Image

got a new ignition coil for it, think I may end up having timing issues? we shall see............. worst case I may make my own stator plate for it.
about it for now, will keep updating as I go along.
best regards
John

Bike is looking good john

Will you be looking to run a fly wheel weight to smooth things on the road or does it behave ok as it is ?

The funny thing is I was just looking at this thread yesterday haha. I like the look of your tires but I don't think I can get those over here.
