What I would do first before you do any work on the bike is get it registered. Then if you can't get the paper work then you don't have a few hundred bucks tied up in pointless lighting.

When I went to register my KDX I was intending on registering it as an ATV so I didn't have any insurance on it yet. When I went into the DMV office with all of my paperwork and handed it to the lady she asked me if I wanted to register it as a motorcycle or an ATV. I really wish that I had put insurance on it before I went to DMV... I would get the bill of sale and the correct NY paperwork together and go to DMV with motorcycle insurance on it and give it a try. You never know, they might just push it thru for you. And from what I have noticed the closer to closing the less they care about what you have so that might work out for you.

If not there is always Vermont.

Gave the VIN number to my buddies wife, she works in the DMV. She's gonna run it tomorrow and see what she can do, then we go from there.

Sub'd to see what happens!

rbates you don't need a MSO/ MCO up there to get it registered? You just get it insured and maybe get it inspected beforehand then they give you a street title?

In NY you get an inspection after it is registered. So, as long as it has all the lights, mirror and a horn your good to go. Once it is registered. Getting things registered is the hard part up here. Also once it is registered you have all the time you need to get it inspected, you can't ride it on the road with out the lights and what not but it is registered.

Ok I see. I believe we have to have them inspected first down here then we can get them registered. Do they give you a title?

If you can get it registered for the road you will end up with a title. In NY if it is not meant to be on the road it can not be on the road. But some things can slip thru the cracks.
