Golden spectro 2-stroke oil. ??

Post by Ryan »

hi, well im in search of a good oil for a kdx220. I can get golden spectro 2-stroke mix for like $6.00 in the 12oz container. I have just a few questions. Does this stuff burn clean and is it worth the money? Also, doesnt jeff use this stuff? And on the back it says normal ratio is 52:1, 64:1 for super technical, and 42:1 for rough terrain. WEll i tried 42:1 and it fouled my plug. I figured it was cause i had it jetted for 32:1. So i went back to that. The weird thing is my friend has his bike jetted for like 24:1 (its a kdx175). he tried this oil at 52:1 like the directions said and it ran great??? :? . He did not even rejett his bike. Well, should i try running 52:1 without rejetting?? Isnt this to lean? wont it burn out my motor? any help would be great?

I've been running Golden Spectro @ 52:1 since I got my 89. It always smoked and had a fair amount of spooge. I rejetted and reduced both and got the bike running much better but could never eliminate it completely. I ended up blaming it on the oil and just living with it because the bike ran like a champ. After I switched to a new RB'd carb and recorrected the jetting to work with it 99.9% of my excess spooge was gone. All I have now is a little dried ring at the S/A tip that can be wiped off after each ride. No drooling mess. So it would seem that my issues were not caused by lousy oil but lousy jetting.

AMSOIL. If your plug is fouling... it's jetted rich. It's not your oil and 52:1 is richer than 24:1.... more gas=richer!

Thank you! :prayer:

I run Amsoil as well, but...there are many quality oils out there. The key is to CHOOSE A MIXTURE RATIO and then JET THE BIKE. Do not try and fix jetting by changing the fuel/oil ratio.

Yes, Fredette does use Golden Spectro. I asked him what ratio he uses and he replied 50:1, has for 20years.

If 52:1 you mean oil:gas... you got it backwards!
No wonder your fouling plugs.... I think Jason did that once...

Gas is gas...no matter if your talking about air or oil. Jetting is gas flow to air flow not the other way around. Don't make up for bad jetting with changing ratio's. Pick a ratio then jet for it... then you will be set. You will never get your jetting right if you keep changing ratio.

kdx220freak, the 52:1 means 52 parts gas and one part oil. It is talking about the FUEL. If you went from 52:1 FUEL to 40:1 FUEL, then the FUEL is leaner. The LEANER / RICHER description is based on the amount of gasoline when one is talking about FUEL.

What people are saying is to choose which gasoline to oil ratio you want, then adjust your jetting properly. After you choose how rich or lean you want your fuel to be, THEN you choose how RICH or LEAN the engine is running. Assuming that the filter is cleaned and oiled properly, everything is in proper mechanical condition, etc., then THAT portion is controlled by adjusting the carburetor jetting.

There may havbe been some confusion on RICH and LEAN, as it relates to FUEL and how it relates to how the ENGINE is running. It took me a long time to figure out what everyone was meaning on "rich" and "lean".

I hope this helps.
