89-94 KDX200 gas tank mounting

Post by KDXsg »

Hi, I own a 1992 KDX200 SR model which has the metal gas tank which is only 9.5L. I am thinking of changing it to the E plastic gas tank for the extra 2.5L. Anyone can post some pictures of your E bike
gas tank mounting at the rubber damper area? I just want to know how the rubber strap is attached to the damper post. Many thanks for the help.

One of the first modifications I did to my SR was to fit the E plastic tank. However, you'll have to remove the oil pump and oil reservoir and run the bike on pre-mix. From memory, as it was 20 odd years ago that I did this, you'll also have to hack off the oil reservoir mounting tabs from the frame otherwise the plastic tank won't fit.

You'll also have to glue a piece of rubber to the frame where the back of tank will sit. The rubber strap fits over a tab that is on the part of the frame where the front of the seat locates.

Cheers
I may be old, I may be slow, but hey I'm still getting my leg over - a dirt bike!
