Kickstarter Only Catches Some of the Time

Post by KDXGarage »

When I try to crank my KDX250, the kickstarter only catches some of the time. Sometimes it will catch and kick over normally, but then sometimes it will blow right through the kicking stroke. I know this has probably been discussed in the past, but can someone give me a refresher on what causes that? Is it the spring, a gear or what??

Thanks.

My 200 used to do this. I took apart the ratchet assembly and stretched (stiffened) the small spring that applies pressure to the gears. Problem solved!...YMMV

Contaminated oil or the wrong weight (too heavy) oil in the clutch case will cause the kicker to slip as well.

Can you explain that a little bit? Do you mean stuff from a KX that will fit on the KDX250 or are you referring to a KDX to KX fork swap??

Like KAY DEE EXER, I Now have "THE LIST".

I think I burned a hole in buykawasaki.com.

EDIT: Wait. That sounds like I am working on an ATM. It's the "me working" part that I was talknig about.

It doesn't look too bad. A little spit and polish and she'll be good to go.
