I have a 97' 220 and I removed the ignition cover today (first time) to find a substantial amount of gas/water/dirt mix that had accumulated in the bottom of the flywheel area, I'm letting it dry out in front of a fan currently

is this common to occur?
could this mean a blown crank seal?

One symptom of leaking crank seals is poor engine performance and fuel / oil accumulation in the flywheel housing. I wouldn't expect dirt from a blown seal. I think it's more likely there's some leakage around the flywheel cover and/or wire grommet.

Personally, I would like to see the flywheel housing fitted with a vent hose so any condensation can be vented off when the engine heats up.

The engine doesn't seen to have poor performance, about the same as my dads 04' pumpkin 200 after I got the RB mods last week, but I have seen gas when removing the fuel line and water from washing going down the wire that runs into the flywheel area and eventually into the bottom

Whenever I wash my bike I remove the cover and reinstall the next day.

Water and dirt would indicate something coming in from the outside. Any fuel or oil had to come from the inside. Is there any play in the flywheel, up and down or side to side?

No there is no play in the flywheel, it was also clean (aside from being wet) and free of scratches

I'd clean it out and roll. Just keep an eye on it!

I will, I'll check it in a month and report back, I also wrapped the wire coming from the coils inside with electrical taper so no water sneaks in through there
