low end bog!!

Post by kdxquebec »

my bike was awesome since saturday morning! 89kdx200

10 minutes after our start my bike began to bog at low rpm...you know ...when you are in first gear and then you snap the throttle (wot) to jump a log...and the bike want to die!!!! bruuueee and stall!! the sound is exacly the same when you ride with the petcock at off position ...the bike dies and stall. all day long. what the heck! i did no change ...why my bike do this?

after the ride i took off the carb and clean all was ok
then inspected the reeds =ok like new
putted a new plug
cleaned air filter
fill with new gaz
check the throttle cable routing/sleeve/needle/=ok

heres the mods

fmf pipe and silencer
air box lid cutted half
165 main jet
stock pilot
air screw 2 turns out
needle 2 clip from top
twin air filter
40:1
compression 175 psi wot

is it a left crank seal issue? the seals are 4 years old
is my bike is too lean or rich at low rpm? how i can tell? the plug is light brown
I messed 1 hour with air screw and iddle screw with no result!
I think my bike have too much air.
What do you think? your guidelines will really help me!

Were there any big changes in temperature and humidity? Sounds like your lean down low.

165 main jet and stock pilot jet?? Is that a typographical error, KDX_Quebec? I was using:

FMF pipe
FMF spark arrestor
Twin Air filter
almost all of airbox lid cut away
R1173N needle (OEM, one size thicker-leaner) in clip #2
Kawasaki oil at 32:1
150 main
45 pilot

The 165 and 48 combo sounds odd to me.

I don't think a 165 is going to be on the map even if its 0 outside. Have you done a WOT plug chop?

What is the temperature up there right now? I know you were fighting snow just to get it out of the shed not too long ago.

temp is 15 celcius. near comfortable with a cotton t-shirt.

yes I did plug chop. the plug was ok.

I just came back from a road test and nothing went right. the bike runs better with the choke up!! (not a joke) the bike dont idelling right.when i crack the throttle she wants to die again with 56 positions on the air scew! i think the bike is too lean... why? last ride all was ok and saturday it is a nighmare  maybe a problem with the pilot? no spooge never just a nice little blue smoke.

or left crankseal again? I replaced both 4 years ago! today there was a little film of oil in the magnetto cover. like a 1 cent penny in there. the three depressions under the stator was ok and dry.

at this point any others idea will be helpul for me  thanks

I remember those days..........

If its 15C (60F) and it takes a 165 + choke to idle correctly something isn't right. I'd start looking for an air leak. A full stripdown and cleaning of the carb would also be in order. You might also want to pull the pipe and take a look at the condition of the KIPS (as much as you can see at least). Have you repacked the silencer lately? Let us know what you find.

Any chance there is a leak in the air filter to airbox sealing area?

Time for a leakdown test... Also check the carb boot for leaks with some WD-40 or Carb spray. Worn rings or a leaky seal mimic Lean jetting so you may be on the right track. Try the former first though to eliminate the cheap fix.

A dent usually only makes a difference if it is in the first 6 inches of the pipe....

Water at the gas station could affect the engine's running.

From collecting in your carborator and not allowing enough combustible fuel to flow to your engine to passing into your engine and causing scoring on your piston - intake side! You mentioned that you drained and replaced the fuel mix. Did you completely drain the fuel tank? Was this the same time as you checked the carb? i.e. If so water in the original gas mix should have been eliminated.

If it were mine -(1) I would check to ensure the pilot jet and air screw was not plugged or restricted. Flush the passage and blow out with compressed air or a pressurized can of carb cleaner. (2) If no problem in carb pilot system - I would look further into whether the KIPS valve was working and look into the cylinder from the carborator/reed side and also from the exhaust side to check on the piston and cylinder. Looking for piston or cylinder scoring due to lack of lubrication. :?

Good luck - I hope it is just a plugged pilot jet or air screw passage
