89 w/p seals

Post by kdxquebec »

hi there .

my 89 came out from the factory with one water pump seal shaft.

the 91 came out with 2 seals.

can I upgrade my 89 and put 2 w/p seals like in the 91?

Certainly have. Works like a champ. Check to see if you water pump shaft is grooved as well. If it is your going to have to replace it along with the seals. Its not a bad idea to replace the bearing while your at it as well. Depending on their condition when your remove the side covers your going to need gaskets (water pump, clutch and side cover).

There might be groove marks where the seals go and also where it passes threw the bearing. Crappy picture of mine has mini grooves

John has the right idea, on my 89 it was quite noticable, you could hook a fingernail on the groove.
