Post by kdxmccallister »

Hey guys i just recently bought a 96 kdx 200 and all and all its an awesome bike first 2 stroke and kawasaki ive ever had and im loving it...however ive been wondering what could cause my back end to beat me to death...it seems like the the rear tire or suspension or something just throws the seat into my ass when going moderate speed on dirt or gravel trails...the back end also sways back and fourth alot more then any bike ive ever had...is it just something im not used to or is there something i can tweak replace or fix??? Help Plz :?

First thing to check would be tire pressure. Then I would start to look at the shock and linkage.

if you press down on the seat hard does the back end of the bike fly up quick?? if so then it could be one of 3 things..

1, static sag could be too much ( rear spring wound down too much )
2, pre load adjustment not enough on the rear shock ( i tend to run 10-12 clicks out from fully turned in )
3, the rear shock has blown out all its gas...(rebuild )

regarding my previous post...number 2.. i ment the `rebound` setting , this is the small brass screw adjuster found on lower end of the shock.

Have you checked the swingarm and linkage bearings, besides the shock?

set the rider sag, and adjust the shock rebound and compression settings to center - then go from there with finer adjustments between rides.

If you cant fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem.

+10...really, it's the best thing you can get for your bike.

After you make sure you have correct tire pressure, a good (charged and functioning) shock, and the linkage and bearings are good, setting the sag (http://kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=102&t=1110) will start getting you in the ballpark as far as suspension.
