Removing stock handguards

Post by ktm909 »

I want to replace my sons stock hand guards with bark busters. Does anybody know what bolts I can use to replace the large stock ones that go thru both levers to hold them.

Thanks
Chris

i think you are overthinking the issue
if you buy a set of barkbusters they will most likely reach further than the perches and on top of that come with their own hardware
even if you buy them second hand they should come with mounting hardware

i wouldnt even worry about how to mount them and just buy a set i like

I think you will have a hard time finding the brake pivot bolt. I seem to remember a thread that talked about it with no successes. For the clutch side the easiest thing to do would be to buy a new perch, lever set up and it should come with the correct pivot bolt that will be the smaller size that you are looking for. I have looked at trying to replace the pivot bolt on the brake side and lost interest quickly because it really doesn't interfere with anything.

I replaced the brake pivot bolt with one from an '04 KX250, part # 92150-1451. I haven't found a replacement for the clutch lever pivot yet, but the stock bolt hasn't bothered me yet.

I just left the bolts in mine. They do look a little goofy I guess, but they don't bother me.

I hate to revive an old thread, but I had a set of complete lever assemblies from a 2000 yz250 laying around, and those bolts fit perfectly when I took my hand guards off. Like they were made for the kdx, and didn't hang down ready to stab my knee. About 3 or 4 bucks a piece on partzilla as well.
