Clutch basket question

Hi,
I'm a newbie to dirtbike and the KDX also. So to day I checked the clutch basket, and it was broken a small piece. That means I have to replace it, but the worse problem is I found this piece:

I don't know where could it comes from, or it is a "left over part" that the previous owner left for me.

I also checked the diagram of the engine, but found nothing similar to it. So if anyone familiar with KDX engine, could you please help me out to know is this piece broken from some parts of the engine?

And do you know if kdx 220 and 200 can share the cluch basket? I googled for 220 oem basket and found almost nothing

Best regards

have a look through this thread at the pictures.

http://kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopic.ph ... er#p113766

looks like the spare bit you found is the governor lever that broken of the governor shaft (operates the kips)

yes the 200 shares the same clutch basket from 95 onwards.

Hi John,

Thanks for the answer. Looking at the picture I believe it is the governor lever. I haven't got time to recheck it yet, but in case I need to order a new one, do you know any website that sell it? I googled for it and it's not much I can find

Thanks

Do you have any experience with them?

Thanks for your support, John

I live in the uk, I have seen both sites, but never used them, I normally just get my parts from my local Kawasaki dealer.

being in Vietnam I think postage will be the problem, expensive if the companies in the uk will ship?

will you try to get a second hand clutch basket? as these are expensive new!

best regards
john

Hi,
I just got another question since I'm quite confused. I got the bike from a friend, and he also doesn't know what year is it.
I also looked at the wiseco clutch basket, and it says fit 97 onward. So what's the difference between a 94 and 97 model?

It's quite expensive so I have to make sure first hehe

Many thanks
Dan

yes the basket will only fit 97 onwards, you need to confirm the year of your bike.
there was some earlier 220's that where the SR model.
type in your vin number here to check the year.

you could have real issues finding out, I have tried to search Kawasaki japan, but you need to have the vin to be able to confirm the year of the bike.

sounds like you definitely have the SR, nightmare to find parts for!
sorry I cant be of anymore help, unless someone else on here knows how to search for SR parts?
best regards
john

Hi, for the picture of my bike, please visit this link: http://kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=13758

I was a little bit busy lately so I didn't found any thing new yet. But just have a little finding at a japanese kdx forum. I also have a kdx 220sr, and used the hinson clutch basket.
http://off1on2.fc2web.com/iro/kdx/Eg/1/p/hin1.jpg
Here is the quote from his email, it's kinda hard to understand :(

"Is this expectation; "how did attach it?" I felt that I wanted to hear を.
Therefore I attached one image.

The Kawasaki genuine part fixes a basket and a gear with a rivet of iron.
I sharpen it with a drill and delete it.
Then a basket and a gear separate.
I only rebuild it in KIT where is attached to parts to purchase.
It is not difficult if I like manufacturing and DIY"

"For the installation of the clutch basket, I remove a rivet and am completion just to replace the basket.
A new basket has an attached screw, and a basket is made to use it.
The installation is simple.

The basket of the acquisition plan is the same installation method, too."

sounds like he is talking about removing the gear from the basket,
which you will probably have to do when you get a new basket.
a few options..........

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kawasaki-KDX- ... 3f2374ddfd

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Prox-Clutch-B ... 4abd078525

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wiseco-Clutch ... 4abd083082

your bike is definitely a H series, and I am sure they where released as early as 94 for the SR model.

I would be very surprised if the baskets was not the same as a normal H series bike.

john

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/ in the usa.
they do aftermarket clutch baskets, and also oem parts, a quick check shows they have the governor lever in stock.

they ship anywhere and also add any customs duty at the checkout, so the parts get delivered to your door without any hassle.

john
