Shift lever bolt
Anyone have any tips for removing a shifter with a snapped bolt in it? Seems the PO snapped the bolt and left it that way. It is snapped inside of the bottom side of the shifter so I can not get a pair of vice grips on it. Any tips or tricks would be helpful.

Re: Shift lever bolt
are you just trying to get the shifter off ?
if that is the case you should be able to pound a screwdriver into the slot that is pinched by the bolt to open it far enough to get it off
as for getting the bottom part of the bolt actually OUT
thats a whole nother story but i would suggest getting a set of bolt extractors
you just drill a hole, pound the extractor in and unscrew it

But with the bolt still in there the bolt is sitting down into the grove of the shifter shaft so you will need to pry it very far apart to get the bolt shaft out of the grove. And with the bolt still in both sides of the shifter prying it that far might be an issue.diymirage wrote:are you just trying to get the shifter off ?

I would say that the first step I would do is pull the engine out and flip the engine over to give it a good looking at. Then try the drill and extractors. Or if your ready to call it a loss then you could just cut the shifter off at the lower hole and start with new.

.
i'd forgotten about that groove
i guess it all depends on where the bolt is snapped off then and if it indeed is still catching the groove
that would make it quit a bit harder
