Yes once all the oil is in exhaust system and packing it stays a long time. Never adjust jetting or oil ratios to get rid of spooge. Jet with plug chops.

Also, pick an oil and ratio and jet to that then stick with the oil and ratio.

Lived in Upstate SC all my 35 years and never knew there was a MX National in Anderson. Anyone know exactly where it was held?

Alright, did the chop and got a nice tan to brown at the insulator and there was even a little wet around the threads. Thanks for all the help can't wait to go ride it planning on Tuesday before work.

It sounds like you looked at the outer part of the insulator. Is that the case?

Are you familiar with looking at the bottom with a magnifying glass and using a light, or just cutting the threaded portion of the plug off?

Plug chops are for determing the correct main, and only at the very base of the insulator, not the end.

Man I guess not, I thought I followed the instructions correctly. I even looked at pics to see what to look for on another thread and mine looked very similar to the one that was the consensus of good what else am I looking for besides color and texture but this is my first attempt at this and I'm trying not to over think or over simplify any aspect, I think I'll do this a few more times under different conditions to see if I get any change.

There is proper spark plug temperature, and then there is a plug chop to check the main jet.

Look halfway down this page to see a couple of good pictures of cut plugs, as well as two plug reading lighting magnifiers.

its a 92 KDX 250...you just got to know where to look ;)

Doc76 wrote:I've recently installed Boyesen power reeds in my 92 kdx 250 and researched a lot about jetting. The bike es running line a champ with 155 and 38 jets with my needle clip on the second notch from the top and the air screw 1 1/2 turns out. Everything seems to be perfect and working better than ever, which gives me great pause for concern. How can I tell if I'm too lean? The throttle is crisp and clean, there is no bog or hesitation , no audible ping, so how can I tell if its too lean before I kill the top end ?
