Good trade???

Post by Hookemhornz »

Here's the deal. A friend of mine is selling his 07' ktm 450exc. He has made me an offer for my bike (99' kdx 220) and $600. To be honest my bike isn't in that great of shape so it surprised me that he made the offer. What do you guys think of this deal? I paid $1200 for my bike by the way.

you're talking trading a reliable and cheap to maintain 2 strokes for an expansive to repair 4 strokes...

Good trade???

That deal sounds good, almost too good...and you know what they say about that. Is there anything wrong with his bike, or is it about due for some major work? Really boils down to what kind of riding you want to do and upkeep. The KTM is a great machine, but as mentioned is more expensive to maintain, and in most opinions a little harder to get set up comfortably. I'd be pretty tempted.... :hmm:

I've known the guy for years and trust him. He has been riding for over 30yrs and I know that he takes very good care of his stuff. The ktm has fairly new tires and has been maintained as it should be. He is one of the guys that got me into riding last year and has been instrumental in teaching me how to ride. I've also known the previous owner before him for a while too. I'm not concerned about there being anything wrong with it.

Sounds like a good deal. Even so, I'd never give up my uber reliable 2 stroke for a 4 stroke. Been on a 450 in the woods, and don't care for it one bit.

So then the real question is why does he want your KDX??? :hmm: LOL

I like the KTM's out in the desert, but love my KDX in the woods where I spend most of my time. maybe someday I'll have both (or better yet, a KX500 for the desert...but then I'd want to SuperMoto it so I guess I'd need 2 500's  better start saving my lunch money)

Good luck with your decision!

I don't know about the area you live in but where I live you can buy superclean, low hour kdx's, all the time for around $1500. Every one wants an orange bike. Maybe you could make the trade, sell it, and then buy another kdx with less wear on it and use the extra cash from the deal to upgrade your new bike.

Good trade???

I was thinking about the same as skippy. Around here KDXs seem to be for sale forever and the orange bikes go quick for a lot more money. But, how is the friend going to take it if you take his trade and then sell it at a profit to buy another better KDX?

LOL yeah you probably don't want your buddy to read this thread or he might get a different idea and go for his own profit and new KDX

if it's that great of a deal, go for it, ride it a few weeks/months so no ones feeling are hurt; then if you don't like it sell it and buy another KDX for cheap...
