87 Pipe mod????
Is there any kind of pipe mod for the 87 pipe?? I've looked all over and all that comes up is mods for the 89 to 94 models.
I don't really want a aftermarket pipe because im low in the moneys and fmf doesnt even make one that will fit.. I've done everything I could think of other wise as far as performance, Fmf powercore 2 silencer, Keihn pwk 35mm, boyesen power reeds, top end rebuild. The carb is tuned in awesome! But still looking for more kick!!!
Thanks!

87 Pipe mod????
Besides porting and head work, which I have not tried, I doubt you will find anything better than swapping to an FMF pipe.
Look on eBay for a used one. It will be worth the money and time. I was quite surprised on my '87 as to how much it helped.

Re: 87 Pipe mod????
I removed the inner wall on my stock 89 pipe. Did it make a difference? Yup. Was it worth the effort? Probably not. It took a long time, and was a big pain in the ass. However, it does help. By the time you're done, you'll wish you'd just ponied up the cash for an aftermarket pipe, lol.

What model fmf was it?? Ive looked all over for one and could not find one that would fit.
What kind of difference did it make in the over all performance?? Did you have to rejet the carb?
I have all the tools and a experienced welder that is ready to help with the mod.

Re: 87 Pipe mod????
After mod, you've basically increased the internal volume of the pipe. More power is gained everywhere, with a focus on top end. It's not a huge difference, but enough to feel. Not sure what result this would have on an 87. I know you can get a DG new from dirtoverstock.com that will fit your bike. The DG is a good pipe. The FMF you'd be looking for used on ebay or elsewhere. Did they call them "Fatty" back then or just "Gold Series"? Can't recall...

Well as have virtually no money for a new pipe but the resources and time for the mod I think I'll go through with it!
Thank you for the input! I will post pictures and the results of the mod once it is completed!
