Quick needle question
When we're talking about DEK and CEK needles, is that all there is to the number? I can call Sudco up and say "I need a DEK needle" and get the right thing? I'm just trying to figure out why there's an 1174 and then DEK- doesn't make sense. Why not 1254 or something like that?
Thanks,

Sudco part number for CEK N427-48-017-430 for DEK N427-48-017-508
The first nine numbers are the same the last three digits denote the specific needle.
Check out the Sudco online catalog page 116 for specific needles numbers. That said - if you tell the sudco person your looking for needles which are N427-48-017 CEK and DEK they should have no problems.

The 1173/74 needles are a B series needle. BEP if I remember right would be the Keihan crossover.Green Hornet wrote:What is a 1173/74 comparable too? CEM, DEK ??

"Me thinking" does not make it so. I just remember the stock 1989 - 1994 KDX200 needle as "biggun", like "Hey, Big One".

If you look at the info from Canadian Dave's site, it shows that the 1174 translates to a needle that isn't manufactured by sudco. Or anyone but Kawasaki for that matter. It's been a while, but that is what I recall. That is a good read though. I printed it and review it occasionally.

I know most of you folks in the U.S. run 200's, but will the CEK and DEK work for a 220?
I am still currently using the standard carb (re-jetted), and a torque pipe. Set up works good, but I want to fiddle with some different needles now.
Also, will the CEK and DEK needles work with the stock slide?

ski, I don't know who makes them, but sudco has a 017-070, which is a BGQ (AKA R1174N).

Green Hornet, which needle(s) did you try on the 220R? My friend wsjkawasaki is adjusting his jetting on his 1997 KDX220R, so any help on which needles will/won't work would be great for him.
Thanks!

I'm running the 1173 needle in the 35mm. Tried the CEK was Four Stroking BIG TIME.
The xEM needles work well with the stock #5 slide (generally). I'd either get a #7 slide or a CEM needle and try from there. I'm saving the CEK needle for when I have the RB mod done.
The 1173 needle is a bit richer then the 1174. Fredette recommended the 1173 in the 220/35mm Setup
Ron does modify the SLIDE to LEAN it. That is why the CEK will work well in it. Or you can buy a #7 slide.

Thanks for the info. He has the 33mm stock carb, and I was thinking you had the 33mm stock carb, too. Sorry about that.

FYI-If anyone picks up a 35mm carb that is pre 95, DO NOT SEND TO RB for the MOD. Ron wrote to me that the material that Keihin used then is different then the 95 - current and he CAN NOT do the mod. Heres what he wrote:
In the past several months I have had a few people send me 35 mm PWK's that they bought from e-bay and none of them have been any good. Most of them have been pre 1995's and have the non plated slide in them. Also the chokes and float needle and seat are shot along with the special o-ring gasket seal for the jet block.

This would be a recent change on Ron's part. He has done several pre-95 carbs in the past. One of the changes for them was to bring the jet block upto the same height as the 95+ carbs (pre 95 carbs have a 2mm lower jet block) as well as the rest of the rb mods.Green Hornet wrote:FYI-If anyone picks up a 35mm carb that is pre 95, DO NOT SEND TO RB for the MOD. I'd imagine that he is warning against using the older carbs simply from the stand point of being worn out.

How does this affect the jetting of the pre 95 carbs? Are most of the recommended setups based on the post 95 carbs? One of the changes for them was to bring the jet block upto the same height as the 95+ carbs (pre 95 carbs have a 2mm lower jet block) as well as the rest of the rb mods.
What does he do to make it leaner?Ron does modify the SLIDE to LEAN it.
My KDX is proving to be a PITA to jet so I'm considering a newer RB modded carb in the future.
