The wife and I are going riding next weekend. She is quite the trooper normally but suffers from freezing fingers this time of year. Anyone have any good ways to keep her hands warm? Here kx100 doesnt have a lighting coil so heated grips are out.

I would try snowmobile mittens

have her wear latex surgeons gloves underneath the regular gloves
it seals in the heat and moisture

really works wonders for cold weather rides

Full cover hand guards like the ones from Maier block a lot of wind. Then, already mentioned, wear some type of surgical type glove underneath her normal gloves. Never heard of the surgical glove idea. Really wanted the tusk muffs but Rm is out of stock

If you don't have full plastic guards on there, get them. They really do make the most difference. Aside from that, wearing latex gloves underneath riding gloves does help, but can promote blisters as well.

Try looking for "water proof" winter gloves. The thinner the better for dexterity. The gloves that are "water proof" have a plastic liner so they will keep the wind out and the heat in. And the muffs or the mittens would help too. I can see the idea behind the latex gloves but if you are taking your gloves off very often then they probably won't be a great option.

She has the tusk bark busters with guards but they aren't big enough. I've seen some winter riding gloves but reviews are hit and miss.

i gues every one rides different from each other but when i ride i put my gloves on right before i put my helmet on for the first time and they stay on untill i pull back up to the trailer

For me cold weather that requires extra warm gloves means I'm out of the woods and on the lake ice. On the lake ice it is more of a social event. Ride for a bit, have a few beers, ride for a bit, few more beers and so on. In that case you are taking your gloves on and off a lot so something that is easy to use is nice. And on the open lake ice at near full speed for a duration with the cold temps and wind chill requires warm gloves. So I have found that the water proof winter gloves work well for blocking the wind and keeping warm.

The Maier hand guards fit the Tusk bark busters. That is the combo I have and you can see them on my bike in my sig below. There is a link there if you want to see bigger pics.

she will need more coverage than the maers ( i would like to hear nothing more than a mad chain saw kx behind me instead of a cold mad wife so erring on the side of cuation!)

Ame makes heated grips and a battery pack option. Its pretty high $140 for the grips $89 for the Batt pack $27 for charger. May be worth it if she rides a lot in the cold.

Figured I'd bring some thread closure. These moose racing guards work! Her hands only got slightly cold instead of hypothermic cold. For 25$ well worth it
