I am experiencing what I can only describe as an un-smooth feeling coming from the shift lever when going from 1st to 2nd[visa vera] When down shifting from say 4th, with the clutch disengaged, the transmission will stop at second gear and not move any further till I engage clutch...and then disengage clutch.
I am afraid that what everthe problem is [worn fork/drum/spring], it would require the cases being split. Any thoughts would be much abliged.
Regards,
Ed

Try a different oil in the transmission before you tear anything apart, unless there is noise that goes with the notchy feeling.

Re: Notchy shift between 1st and 2nd gear
ATF type F . No noises....
Works very well in my nephews older/but identical KDX. I'll try the 80w sfuff. If no difference....what could cause transmission to not down shift unless clutch is engaged. Then disengaged?
