98 KDX 200 cylinder pic
It looks like it is sleeved and a pretty good job of it. The ports line up well.
This means:
1. You can hone it and see if you can clean it up. or
2. You can bore it to an oversize. This is cheaper than a re-plate.
Now people will give you their opinions on whether they like a sleeve or not.
Myself, I had an air cooled with a sleeve and had issues with reliability.
I would take a micrometer and find out what size the bore.
Stock 200cc is 66mm.

Looking closer at the bottom view, it almost looks like a piece of the transfer port on the right side of the picture is missing behind the sleeve.
It might be the angle of the picture, but it doesn't look right.
That might be why they sleeved it.

Re: 98 KDX 200 cylinder pic
Sleeved. I wouldn't sleeve a cylinder myself, given any other option. I also wouldn't scrap a cylinder just because it's sleeved. Especially not when the sleeve looks to be well installed, like yours does. I agree on the lower transfer, looks like a chunk was missing, hence the sleeve. Some of those gouges look deep enough to warrant an oversize, or two. Is there any marking on the piston? You'll need to know if it's already oversized.

There are some numbers on the piston but I cant read them all. The ones I can read say 0064E. There are some numbers also printed in the middle of the piston but those are the ones I can not read..

Cleaned the piston and finally made out the number. It is 711M06600. Which is a Wiseco std size piston. Now I need to send off the cylinder to see how much they have to actually bore. Typically you would send a piston but with me not knowing how much it will need to be bored what should I do?

I would take it to your local motorcycle machine shop.
It likely would clean up at 0.50mm oversize but a shop could tell you.
Good luck.

If you have to send it off for an overbore, I would just purchase the piston from whoever is doing the work. They will match it up for ya.200kdx200 wrote:Cleaned the piston and finally made out the number. It is 711M06600. Which is a Wiseco std size piston. Re: 98 KDX 200 cylinder pic
Getting cylinder back tomorrow, had to bore. 50mm to get rid of damage. About to start putting everything together this week. Anything that I should look out for? This is my first KDX rebuild any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!
