WOW! Proper jetting.

Post by Dekon »

All I can say is WOW, what a huge difference proper jetting makes. The KDX has really woken up, man does this thing pull hard. After getting the bike running, it was so rich that I was getting massive pools of spooge under the bike from the pipe(Apparently the PO had drilled a small hole in the pipe). So today on the recommendation of JulienD on where to start, I rejetted my carb. It had the stock jetting in and I wound up with the following: DGK needle, 40 pilot and 152 main. I tried a 42 pilot and 150 main and various combinations but it just did not seem to run as crisp as the 40 and 152. The only problem I have is I am not able to do a plug chop due to no place to pull one off(short, narrow, twisty streets where I live) so I had to go by seat of the pants feel. I also think I might have to fool around with the air screw a bit more.

Thank you Jason for your jetting recommendations they were a huge help.

Also, jetting a carb is not the black art that I thought it was.

Yeah, it's amazing what the correct fuel/air ratio can do for you. Glad you're getting it right!
