Exhaust o-ring

Post by kdxlnt »

I need o-rings for my 1990 kdx-200 expansion chamber. From Kawasaki they're about 10 bucks apiece. I'm sure McMaster-Carr sells them for way cheaper, but I don't know what size they are. Could someone please inform me?
Thanks in advance.

Measure the ID you'd need by measuring the groove in your pipe.

If you have the right o-rings then you shouldn't need RTV.

If you don't have the o rings just use RTV, it seals up just fine

Read up on the different types of o-rings made before buying any old o-ring.

Thanks much for the replies. I'll measure. I know that there is a high-temp material that exhaust o-rings are made from, Viton, I think it's called. If you've never bought from McMaster-Carr, you can get about 20 o-rings for 15 bucks. I'll check it out and report back.

I pulled out the old ones from the pipe. I expected them to be halfway destroyed, but they were in perfect shape. I can reuse them no problem. I checked the McMaster Carr website and I was wrong about the price. They're about 5 bucks apiece. I was surprised because I bought a dozen of them for my KTM200 for a lot cheaper. Maybe the size is more common.

The size of the o-rings I removed are 40mm ID by 3.5mm thick.

Sounds like you need to check how well the pipe fits into the cylinder it may be tweaked, and or the exhaust port may have some grooves where the Orings seal. I have 4 cylinders and they are all worn where the Orings sit, I always use sealer.

FWIW, I have a FRP torque ring. With the torque ring it spaces the pipe out to the point that the second O ring can be seen from the out side. And I have never had any leakage from the pipe at the cylinder. Not sure why, but I haven't. I think it has more to do with the pipe fitting squarely into the cylinder with enough spring tension to hold it tight against the copper sealing washer.
