1991 KDX200 Plug Problem

Post by CJ-D24 »

Hi there

I've got a 1991 KDX200 which is brilliant for its age. Only problem is I'm chewing through spark plugs faster than I can buy them. I get about 2 hours out of a plug before it needs to be cleaned or replaced. I'm running it at 40:1.

Any suggestions?

What heat range plug are you using? The manual states a NGK B9ES but members on here told me to run a B8ES to help keep from fouling plugs. Also, is your jetting to rich?

I'm running the NGK B9ES as per the manual. As for jetting, I don't think so but I can't be sure as I'm just learning. Any easy way to check/tell?

How to tell your jetting is off? Are you fouling plugs? :busted: Read the jetting guide and follow it: http://kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=105&t=1156 Also, make sure you have a clean air filter and that your reeds are in good shape.

One more thing to keep an eye on would be the transmission oil level. If it is going down you might have a crank seal leaking.
