1980 kdx175 jug

Post by flatfoot66 »

I have gotten as part of a trade a 1980 kdx175 basket case. It is needing a top end. I have done a serch online and am surprased at the price. Right now I am in the reserch part of this new project. I am wondering if the jug from a differnt bike would fit the bottom end of the 175. Any ideas?

IIRC, the same generation KX125 top end is interchangable.

When you say it is needing a top end, can you be more specific on parts or machinging required?

I think the 1980 and 1981 cylinders are the same. Otherwise, that is it.

If it's just the bore that is bad in the cylinder you currently have, you should be able to do a sleeve and new piston/rings for under $300.

no such thing as a KX175. See if they mean KDX175.

Yeah that's that I thought, I couldn't find anything about it on the interweb or on Kawasaki. It must be a KDX, I sent him a message.

OK he finally sent back a message, he said he called Kawasaki and it is indeed a KDX 175 and he corrected the ebay add. It looks like what you need, get it.

Thanks for the help. Poor internet connection has kept me away. The jug has been sold sadly not to me. So back to the wating game.

Would the jug from a 200 work? Welling to do some moding if I have to.

An aircooled KDX200 cylinder MAY fit it. Without prior measurements it is difficult to say. The 175 is a pretty rare machine, so finding parts will be difficult. If it were possible to install a KDX 200 cylinder, I would say that would be the way to go. From what I have found, the 83 KDX200 was a KDX175 with a longer stroke, same bore diameter. I'm not sure what 200 parts you might need to make this conversion, or if it's even possible, but it seems reasonable to believe that it is.

while your researching you should consider the option of dropping a 96< KDX 200 block into it
