Racing with the kdx
Just wondering how many still race the kdx? I have raced a few
HS and just saw a few. I would like a new bike but my 2001 is a
Better bike then I am rider.

I built mine to race but financially haven't been able to since completing it. Hopefully soon I will get a chance. I have said it before and I'll say it again, the KDX is still a very capable machine for hare scramble and enduro racing with a few mods and updates.

Racing (riding in general) is more about the rider then the ride.

The tighter the course, the better the KDX over other bikes, all other things being equal - this has not changed with the passing of a few years.

If you have the money and want to try a new/different bike, go for it. A little variety can be fun. Just don't expect to be faster. Assuming that your bike is set up reasonably well and hasn't had a lot of botched modifications, it is still a viable weapon in the hands of a good rider. There are only two ways to move up through the classes and become an expert level rider- practice and conditioning.Just wondering how many still race the kdx? I have raced a few

Absolutely. One of the fastest woods riders I have ever ridden with rode a 1981 XR200 and looked like he wasn't even trying. Smooth as silk, always picked the good lines, and was in top physical condition.Racing (riding in general) is more about the rider then the ride.

in the uk the kdx isnt popular at all, I race mine, im a rubbish racer but the bike is definately not the problem! I have no problem keeping with other bikes (providing the rider is as crap as me!)
I also like going at similar pace to others and thinking they probably paid 5 times as much as the kdx cost me!

This is even more true if you run a trials tire like I do.kawagumby wrote:The tighter the course, the better the KDX over other bikes, all other things being equal - this has not changed with the passing of a few years.
Just wish I could find an auto clutch. 220+trials+auto=monster rock hill climber.
As far as racing an outdated KDX, I finished first in my class this season on my '97.

Re: Racing with the kdx
I plan on racing my KDX in hare scrambles this summer, if everything goes good.
My 1st bike was an '87 XR200 and I did nothing but trail riding those days. I was very fast through trails, probably faster than I am nowOne of the fastest woods riders I have ever ridden with rode a 1981 XR200 and looked like he wasn't even trying

Re: Racing with the kdx
A featherweight friend of mine who raced A class Hare's back in the day on a KX125 yanked another friends '90 200 out of the barn and went through it (fresh motor, bearings, correct springs, etc). Installed USD's. Left blue seat. Shows up to first HS, and got exactly the reaction he was looking for....laughter. He lapped 2nd place in B Vet. :D

I raced mine twice this past season. The first one was a dead engine start and I got the holeshot because they start so easily. I was around the first corner before anybody else was off the line. If I hadn't crashed, I probably would have won it instead of finishing second. The second race was a 6 hr hare scramble. The low end power was nice, and saved me from stalling a bunch of times when i was tired, but the weight became a bit much after a few hours. Everybody loved the bike.

Re: Racing with the kdx
I've been planning on running a couple scrambles up here for the past 4 years. Seems like every time something comes up. Hopefully in the spring I'll run Brushy Mtn with the NCHSA. Need to do a little maintenance over the winter. Kind of need a new rear wheel, and definitely swingarm, linkage, and rear wheel bearings.

I love dead engine hands on head starts. Mine start easy in 2nd gear.zomby woof wrote:I raced mine twice this past season. Yep, mine gets raced. Use it on tight and woody races and got my GasGas EC300 for the more open fast stuff.

Thanks for all your input. Went and looked at a few used bikes
This week not a lot better if any than what I have now. Think I
Will just rebuild what I have. May try to build a hybrid. Is It that
Much better than a modded kdx with kx forks?
