Gear lever position 200H

Post by gwynfryn »

I can't move my stock gear lever up ( above parallel with foot peg) as it binds on the case.
What do you guys do?, bend the stock?, use after market(which brand)?.
I actually like it level with pegs but it and my foot are kinda vulnerable in the stump infested forestry i ride in! Ta.

Sorry about Sandy, hope you are all well.

you can bend it back into shape, but can only do it so many times till it cracks or breaks.
check RMATV they have aftermarket ones pretty cheap.

If you bend it back just be careful not to bend the shift shaft.

I had the same problem with mine. I took mine off and bent it back in my press. If a press isn't available, a decent sized vice will do.

When you put it back on, you can change the height of the pedal according to how it is located on the shaft.

Thats funny that question was posed today.
An hour ago I just ground off that corner of the shifter that hits the case.
Works perfectly now.

Its not bent.I can't rotate it on the shaft above parallel as the shifter near the spline binds on the case. It will go on to the position i would like, but won't rotate i.e. change gears.

If I understand you correctly, the shifter is binding at the spline where the pinch bolt goes through yes?
You may have some jury rigged bolt in there that isn't allowing the shift lever to go higher. Make sure everything is proper down there.

Stock standard as i bought new. It bolts from underneath(obviously) and the bolt is not too long.
I figure everyone with stock shifter must encounter this if wishing to lift their shifter position a little. Looks like i will have to get out the grinder.

i dunno wtf you're getting the grinder for, it should stay in the toolbox.
if you think you need it, then something else is up...or really bent.
got any pics?

Gear lever position 200H

I'll start again.
I have ridden my bike since new with the gear lever in the same position.
It sits slightly lower than the top of the foot peg.
Nothing is bent or modified in any way and it is the standard gear lever.
I have noticed that most of the guys i ride with (KTM's) run their levers higher. This is to reduce the chance of getting their foot caught on something when upshifting. It feels strange to me as it makes shifting down more difficult but thought i'd try it.
This is where i ran into the problem where by the next position up on the shift spline causes the inside top edge of the shifter(bolt end) to strike the case preventing shifting.
I ground about 2mm off this edge of the gear lever and it now sits where i wanted it to.

But now the other end of the lever(folding tip end) rests against the plastic fly wheel cover when shifting. The first off on that side and something will break.
So i guess Mr Kawasaki never intended anyone to lift the shifter position higher.

I have gone back to my old position.
Dont really like change anyways.

I have my lever mounted so the tip is higher then the peg and there is no issue at all with the mounting end hitting the case. Could you post a picture of what you have going on?

Are you able to install the lever where you want it on the shaft with the lever's pinch bolt removed?

If yes, you may need some extra clearance on the shifter shaft to allow the bolt to pass through.

Sounds to me like the lever slides further unto the shaft then it should?
