need help finding a caliper

Post by 86kdxjake »

I just got an 86 kdx 200 and the front caliper is missing. I tried looking it up on cheapcycles but it seems like they are all dicontinued. I was wondering if anyone has swapped on a newer caliper to the old forks or if any other bikes have a caliper that will bolt on without too much fabrication. Thanks Jake

Has anyone tried making a bracket to mount one of the 2 piston calipers to the old forks?
I'd be eilling to try but I don't want to throw money away on a caliper that I may not be able to use.
On the plus side I got tge bike running with a new air filter and clhtch cable today. It would be nice to have front brakes though lol.

I don't know if it will work, but if you want I have a caliper from a 2000 KX you can have for a donation to the site.

I picked up the caliper today. Everthing seems right. I'll install it tomorrow and see how it works

Mounted the caliper today but couldn't get it to bleed. I'm going to bring my mity-vac home from work tomorrow. Hopefully that will do it or I can bring it to work and use the power bleeder there but I think thats overkill

Tried bleeding with the vacuum bleeder today. Still no luck. I might have to find one of those saringes to inject the fluid through th bleeder. Anyone know where to get one of those?

You can get them at a feed store if they still won't pump up zip tie the lever to the bar and leave overnight and the bubbles will rise on there own. good luck

This is a good tip. If you can get any kind of lever then I would try it.

KTM's are notorious for needing this. Someone told me KTM actual sells a clamp that goes over the lever and bar to keep the lever pulled.

I'm striking out with getting fluid through this system. I might have to rebuild the master and caliper. Something just doesn't seem right. I've bled some pretty tough systems before but nothing like this thing

I guess the threat of ripping it apart further worked lol. I tried bleeding one more time and all the air came out. The brake works great now
