Air cleaner Lid
HI Guys, bought a 04 220 (not running) that I am putting back together. It was missing the air box lid among other things. I got the lid, but don't see what holds it on. Didn't see anything in the parts list, like a strap etc. Any one know ?

Re: Air cleaner Lid
It just sat there. You don't really need it.

Re: Air cleaner Lid
Well I want to keep the lid for several reasons - the cdi unit mounts on it, the intake noise was pretty loud & to keep dirt out of my filter. And I have the lid I just need to know what is supposed to hold it to the airbox.

The lid just sits down on the box. Nothing holds it there but the lip over lap. Once the seat is on it can't really go anywhere.

Along with keeping dust out and reducing intake noise, it reduces your airflow pretty handily as well. I would at least cut some holes in it and rig some sort of filter up if your main concern is dirt/dust. Most of us just pitch it, or cut most of it out except where the electronics mount.

The previous owner of my bike did a nice job cutting out the main portion of the lid and glued some window screen on the top. The filter stays pretty clean and the screen keep the bigger stuff out.

Those are all good reasons.Well I want to keep the lid for several reasons - the cdi unit mounts on it, the intake noise was pretty loud & to keep dirt out of my filter. And I have the lid I just need to know what is supposed to hold it to the airbox.
I doubled the size of the hole in the lid where the rubber snorkle goes and was happy with it. I kept the lid for the same reasons you cited.
It really does just sit there, though

i kept the lid on my 220 ( but ditched the snorkle ) as the english weather is always wet & the mud even worse...i drilled x3 1inch holes just in front where the snorkle fits & installed 3 `uni filters` , its not too loud still keeps the mud out & helps the bike breathe a little better.
