Alright, so I just purchased a 1988 KDX200 (obviously a kdx if im on this forum, lol). But, just curious about a few things. The kips is leaking oil, and i was wondering if there is anything cheap to fix it? I'm not sure about gaskets or anything. & also, i would like to know the TRUE definition of KIPS and what exactly it does. I know its Kawasaki Integrated Power System, but why exactly is it there? Thanks

P.ower valve
S.ystem

And it makes it go fast!

The KIPS opens and closes to help with exhaust port timing by increasing or decreasing the exhaust port opening volume depending on RPM's of the engine.

Check out this link:

http://justkdx.dirtrider.net/

Then go to KDX Tech Tips and you will find KIPS listed under the engine section. It will show you how it works.
