You can buy sheets of it at the auto store. I have made a few that way. Pain in the ass though.

exacto knife, some real good scissors and a single hole punch make it much easier.

I got a pack of it at advance auto parts. It was a few sheets per pack. I'm sure NAPA would have it as well. Advance only had one type/brand, worked fine. As mentioned above, exacto knife and hole punch are helpful.

If you get the right thickness. You would have to measure your old base gasket and get some new gasket paper that is a few thousands thicker.

It has been years since I have had a cylinder off. IIRC, it is pretty thin paper. The gasket paper I have would be too thick for that.

gasket paper?

I always make my own gaskets and they work fine. To make an exact copy, I get a paint pen and cover the whole mating surface the gasket will lay on, and put the gasket sheet on top and take it off and I have an outline of where I need to cut. I use an exactoknife and some hole punchers and a wooden surface

I have done it on a few non-critical ones, but I would not do it on a base gasket. The places I did it, it was just a cover. For example, one could do it on the KIPS expansion chamber and the ignition cover. The thickness being off on those is not important.

I'm not gonna use that for the base gasket, too much at stake.

The best way I have found to copy a surface is to hold the sheet of gasket material up to what you need to copy then tap the edges with a soft hammer to get the shape.

I have even seen a manilla folder used with success as gasket material.
